Notes
This is a great week to be talking and discussing wikis. On Friday of this week I'll be heading to Qatar to help Julie Lindsay and Vicki Davis with their Flat Classroom Conference they are putting on. You can learn more about this conferences that is for students on the conference website which of course is a wiki as well.

Two of the top wiki projects that were done last year (07-08) were by Julie Lindsay and Vicki Davis. Julie is a technology teacher in Qatar and Vicki in Georgia. I encourage you to take a good half hour or so and look over the two amazing projects called The Flat Classroom Project and the Horizon Project two wiki websites that have been completed created by students working a round the world to build knowledge together.

Both of these projects used the wiki site wikispaces.com. A great free wiki site that is giving away 100,000 ad free wikis to educators.

A Google search for educational wiki projects will show you others as well. You can also (and I recommend you do) stop by the Wikis in Education wiki that I help Wetpaint support. Joining this wiki will give you over 1400 educators to connect to. On the site you will find a list of wiki projects that educators are adding to help connect to each other and show others the power of these tools.

Free wikis that you might want to check out.

wikispaces.com
pbwiki.com (blocked in China...for some unknown reason...just an FYI)
wetpaint.com (what we are using for this class)

There are other open sources wiki software as well that a district or teacher could install on their own system and use internally if they wanted to.

Hi Everyone, I just saw this video (through one of the "tickler files" I set up on my net vibes account!) Anyway, it looks like it was just posted to YoutTube a few hours ago and it discusses WIKIs in business (fascinating for me as a corporate educator). Anyway, ENJOY, and Jeff, I hope it is ok that I messed around with this page. :-)
