The other day I checked out the spread sheet Jeff sent to me. There were no changes to it. At that point it hit me, maybe I'm the one who should be adding information on to this page? Any classmates have any insight on this on? thanks Lise

What is the difference from down/up/loading videos, versus Podcasts?????????? Videos are easy. Podcasts, not so much. Any ideas?????? What are we getting credit for? I have over 20 hours of new video..........does that constitute embedding a Podcast??????????????

I, having had to sign these since 1st grade for both my kids, whom, do not "get it" to begin with, think it's a breach of contract. But, that's me. I'd push it if it came to shove. Your idea is great Jen, but where is the understanding of the children, and worse yet, the parents, who really don't get it.??

I have listened to comments and enjoyed seeing the collaboration contributed to this form. Amazing how it works. I have changed the edits to black, and if there are further suggestions, please feel free to add your ideas in a new color. I have used this form already for my Winter Wellness group of ten students; however, I hope to start next year off with a parent orientation on the use of Web 2.0 tools and this form will be used again for all students in my English classes. And then will come the cross-school collaboration. Thank you all again. Jen

Looks good Jen. I think most parents would not know what a wiki is. Maybe that would have to be explained? Good job though.

Please give any feedback you can think of: wording, missing information, responses I should expect. When I request any thing, don't hold back. Be critical. Thank you all for your help, Jen

Good question. With the particular group that this is for, I do have one parent that can't read. The terms should be better defined; however, for that the best method would be a presentation rather than a permission form. It would be great to include in our August parent orientation, but such a small percentage of parents show up. I need to give your questions more thought. Thank you!

Hi Jen- Anything underlined I was thinking could be removed.. Anything in red, not underlined I might add, and the blue stuff, is something that you might want to explain to the parents of how they can join the wiki to take a look at the kids work. They will have to request permission, and you would then approve them.. Only other suggestion I would have, would be if your school has an AUP - Authorized Use Policy, that you mention something about that, parents normally sign at the beginning of year.. and what if there is any discipline you would give if the students did not behave on the wiki.. Sorry, last thing.. Did you run this by your administration? I know some feel strange that kids work is housed outside of the internal server of the school. I do not agree totally on this.. but some do. Don't want you to get into trouble! I know from experience myself.. not fun! Take care.. Kim

Thank you, Kim. I have made changes after reviewing your suggestions. Do you think that this is adequate parental permission to begin my students on a wiki?

Oh...that would be great to connect with Andy but I work all day teaching as well. I am connected to Andy through both email and Facebook...what I need to do is visit them so I can see how they are doing in school...I know his English still needs work...he lives at home in a totally immersed world of Chinese...but his family is wonderful.
Hope the little one feels better...

I thought this was the site where we comment on Jeff's questions. Anyway, the Google docs area extends our teaching to offer online learning to students worldwide. Locally, it would allow students that are out of school (extended illness, suspention, extended family vacations) to keep up with the rest of the class with documents and presentations. The presentations could be uploaded on a classroom presentation system. This tool changes the networked classroom by adding the convenience of an all-in-one feature that lets the students share their work with other classes, schools, and educational systems. Schools can afford this innovative technology, because it's free. What's more to say.

Probably four years ago now I did an evening of interviewing veterans with my seventh grade students. It was a lot of leg work to arrange both students and veterans to arrive one evening to communicate with one another. My students and I completed mock interviews, research, and invitations for veterans. I thought it was an excellent project; and then I began to read the stories my students had written after the interviews. Some were riddled with inaccurate information. My goal had been to publish the writing, but the releases needed from parents, students, and interviewees was much more complicated than I anticipated. This year I received a grant to complete the project using 20 Flip Video cameras. I am hoping that through video taping my students will be able to recapture accurate information in their writing. Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to make this a more successful project?

Borrowing it is considered the highest form of flattery. Bubbleshare is so easy to use and you can embed audio into it (30 sec per slide). You may want to check out Voicethread as well.
